Grand Bay
The seaside village of Grand Bay (called Grand Baie by locals)
is among the most popular tourist destinations in Mauritius for its
beaches. In fact, the tourist boom has begun to overrun the small
town, and the peak season of December and January can be quite
crowded, though the buzzing nightlife in this period is enjoyable
for younger travellers. In fact, one of the main reasons to visit
Grand Bay is the variety of restaurants and shopping, second only
to Port Louis.
The beaches in Grand Bay offer a good setting for watersports
like scuba diving, snorkelling, and sailing; and the area around
Grand Bay offers a few scenic or attractions. Popular land-based
activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and
day trips to neighbouring villages. Public transportation in Grand
Bay is very good, and accommodation ranges from budget to luxury
villas.
