The airport is located in Sepang, 31 miles (50km) south of Kuala Lumpur.

Information & Facts

Airport Hotels

There are a number of hotels located in close proximity to KLIA. Visitors can choose from Pan Pacific Hotel, Airside Transit Hotel and the Empress Hotel, which are all located within 10 minutes of the terminal building. Most hotels offer a complimentary shuttle service and many of the hotels have a desk on level one.

Airport Taxis

Taxis are available; they should be paid for in advance at the three ticket counters in the International Arrivals Hall, Domestic Arrival Hall, and Domestic Baggage Reclaim on the Arrival Level. Prices are linked to distance and type of taxi: budget Daewoo and Proton taxis are cheapest, premier limos the most expensive. There is an added surcharge between midnight and 6am.

Car Parking

Short- and long-term parking is available.

Car Rental

Avis, Budget, Hertz, National, Thrifty, and a number of local car rental companies are all represented at the airport. Most visitors opt to avoid driving in Kuala Lumpur, and instead take taxis.

City Transfers

The Express Rail Link train provides the fast transportation to the city centre. The KLIA Ekspres and the KLIA Transit links the airport to Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral - City Air Terminal) and vice-versa. Journeys run from 5am to 12.30am and cost RM35 one-way, RM70 return. At the City Air Terminal departing passengers have the option of checking-in their luggage, receive their boarding passes and proceed to board the train for the airport. Immigration clearance will be completed at there. Travel time between KL Sentral to the airport is 28 minutes on the KLIA Express and 37 minutes on the KLIA Transit. Taxis are also available. Many hotels can arrange for a car to pick up guests, though this is generally more expensive than taking a taxi. An express Coach serviceruns from the airport to KL Sentral for RM10 one-way, RM18 return.

Facilities

Airport facilities include lounges/travel clubs, left luggage, disabled and nursery/baby changing facilities; banks, bureaux de change and ATMs; restaurants and bars, post office, pharmacy; and duty-free shops.

Language

Bahasa Melayu is the national language, but English is widely spoken and is the language of business. Cantonese, Hokkien and Hakka are spoken by the Malaysias Chinese population and Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi among the Indian population.

Money

The Malaysian Ringit (MYR), also referred to as the Malaysian Dollar, is divided into 100 sen. Malaysian banks charge in the region of US$2-3 for foreign exchange transactions. Moneychangers are generally quicker to deal with and do not charge commission; their rates however are variable. Pounds or dollars are the easiest to exchange. Travellers cheques can be exchanged at banks and some hotels. All major credit cards are accepted at upmarket hotels, shops and restaurants. ATMs are widely available.

Terminal Transfers

An Aerotrain provides a free service between terminals. A shuttle bus runs every 30 mins between the low cost carrier terminal (LCCT) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and costs RM 1.50.
