Taxis are available at the airport, they charge EUR6 for the 10-minute drive into Pisa (with an extra fee being added on public holidays and Sundays). A taxi to Florence will cost about EUR130, and the drive takes between 40 minutes and an hour depending on traffic. Be sure to reset the meter at the start of your drive. A Collective Taxi service is also available from the airport, it runs every 10 minutes to the Train Station and the Leaning Tower. Collective Taxis charge a EUR2.50 per person surcharge, and there is a maximum of eight people allowed per taxi. The service runs between 8.00am and midnight.

There are over 2, 700 parking bays at Pisa International Airport. Short-term parking is available in P3 and P8. There is also a multi-storey car park (P2) and two long-term parking lots (P1 and P4), but P4 is a seasonal lot. P1, P2, P3 and P8 are all alongside the terminal, while P5 is just a short distance away and P4 is connected to the airport via a shuttle bus. P3, just outside the departures hall, is free for the first 15 minutes, EUR2 for the first hour, EUR5 for two hours and EUR3 per hour thereafter, up to a maximum of EUR30 per day. P8 is on the arrivals side of the terminal and tariffs are the same as those in P3. The multi-level car park, P2, is next to the railway terminal and is best for medium-term parking. Tariffs start at EUR2 for the first hour, EUR5 for two hours, and EUR1 per hour thereafter up to a daily rate of EUR22 for the first 24 hours, the daily rate decreases slightly thereafter. Long-stay rates in P1, which is 200m from the terminal, start at EUR2 for the first hour, EUR5 for the second, EUR1 per hour thereafter up to EUR22 for the first day and EUR15 for the next two days and EUR10 per day after that. Parking lot P4 is seasonal and only open during summer. It costs EUR6 per day.

Car rental operators at the airport can be found in the Car Rentals Terminal, which is connected to the arrivals area via shuttle bus. The shuttle bus stop is just outside arrivals and rental operators at the airport include Avis, Auto Europa, EasyCar, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Liberty Rentals, Locauto, Maggiore (affiliated with National), Advantage and Sixt.

Train: The railway terminal is connected to the terminal's check-in hall by a 40m covered walkway. There are direct lines to Pisa Central Station and Florence, daily. Buy tickets at the information office in the arrivals hall. There is also a direct shuttle from Pisa International Airport to Pisa Central Station that costs EUR1.10 and runs every 30 minutes between 1.03am and 10.20pm during the week and slightly less regularly on Sundays and public holidays.

Taxis: The Pisa Taxi Cooperative operates taxis to and from the airport. Fares into central Pisa range from EUR5.70 to EUR8 and there is an added surcharge of EUR2.30 on Sundays and public holidays. The airport's taxi stand is in front of the terminal just after the arrivals exit. It generally takes about five to ten minutes to get from the airport to Pisa Centrale railway station.

Bus: Buses run to and from Pisa to destinations across Pisa as well as Tuscan destinations such as Firenze, Siena, Lucca and Viareggio. The Compagnia Pisana Transporti (CPT) has a bus going to central Pisa roughly every ten minutes between 5.20am and 12.01am from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and public holidays the buses run from 7.25am to 12.01am, but they are slightly less frequent than during the week, with between three and four buses an hour. Bus tickets cost EUR1.10 and can be bought from the information office in the terminal. The buses arrive at and depart from the bus stop just outside of the arrivals area.

Money and communications: ATMs, a bank, a bureau de change and a post office are available at Pisa International Airport.

Luggage: Luggage trolleys are available at the airport as is a skycap service. The left luggage facility is located at the information desk in the arrivals area. The desk is open from 9am to 7pm for leaving luggage and 8am to 8pm for collecting luggage. The daily charge per piece of luggage is EUR7. The lost and found office is just inside arrivals.

Conference and business: The Galilei Business Centre has halls, meeting rooms, convention areas and seminar venues equipped with microphones, projectors and other audio visual equipment. Copying and faxing facilities are also available. The airport's VIP lounge also has business facilities and is available free to all passengers travelling business class or to passengers willing to pay the EUR15 entrance fee. The terminal itself has prepaid printing and Internet services as well as video conferencing and laptop ports available at Telelink Internet kiosks.

Other facilities: First aid facilities, baby changing and kids play areas, hotel information desk, a VIP Lounge, a view point area, pharmacy, a business centre, hair salon and beauty centre and a chapel are all available at the airport.

WiFi: Free WiFi is available in the VIP Lounge, but it costs normal passengers EUR15 to gain access to the lounge. An Internet point is available on the second floor next to the waiting area. WiFi in the terminal is only available through service providers such as Vodafone and devitalia. There are also pre-paid Internet kiosks available throughout the airport.

Information: The information office is on the arrivals side of the terminal and is open daily from 7am to 11pm. The office provides helpful information about flight information, tourism in and around Pisa, flight insurance policies and onward travel. The staff generally speak Italian and English and occasionally another European language.

Shopping: There's plenty of shopping opportunities at Galileo Galilei Airport with products from around the world. However, the made in Italy products will not disappoint, particularly if you're after Tuscan gifts and souvenirs for friend and family back home. Before security control passengers can shop at Conte Of Florence, Kontessa, L'Ocabianca, Artemisa, Rossi Calzature and New Fashion Gate. Beyond the security checks passengers can look forward to the tax-free shop as well as shopping at Colline Toscane, for all their Tuscan souvenirs, Leopolda, for clothing and couture, St G, for shoes and fashion accessories, and the Touch and Go shop for perfumes, food and wine. There are also many more shops to choose from.

Food and Drink: There's a great selection of bars and restaurants at Pisa International. Passengers after a quick bite should head to Bar Vasari e Pizzeria Chef, Caffetteria Salza, the Red Baron, Vizi & Sfizi. While those wanting a proper sit down meal or a la carte menu and some time to relax can only do so before the security gates at Mastro Bistecca and Mascagni's Restaurant. After security there are only a couple of options such as Bar/Pizza Chef and Pro Du Co Café.

The official language of Italy is Italian. English is understood in the larger cities but not in the more remote parts of the country.

The Euro (EUR) is the official currency, which is divided into 100 cents. Those arriving in Italy with foreign currency can obtain Euros through any bank, ATM or bureaux de change. ATMs are widespread. Travellers cheques can be exchanged with ease in the large cities, not so in the smaller towns. Credit cards are accepted in upmarket establishments and shops around the cities. Banks are closed on weekends, but tend to have better rates than casas de cambios.
