With all the picturesque hillsides and breathtaking views over the Turquoise Sea, it's no wonder paragliding is such a popular activity in Kas. Other activities include scuba diving, sea kayaking, banana boat rides, snorkelling, swimming and parasailing. Jeep safaris are also a popular activity for more adventurous travellers. A walk up to the castle provides a fantastic view of the Aegean, and tehre are a number of interesting villages and ruins in the area around the town.

Turkish is the official language, but English is widely understood in the main tourist areas.

The official currency is the New Turkish Lira (TRY), which was introduced on 1 January 2005, whereby six zeros were dropped from the TL and the sub-unit New Kurush was created. Currency can be exchanged at banks, exchange booths, post offices, airports and ferry ports; banks have the worst rates and highest commissions, but will exchange lesser known foreign currencies. Banks open mainly Monday to Friday, but some are open daily in tourist areas. ATMs are widely available in major cities and tourist areas, but Turkish ATM keypads usually do not have letters of the alphabet on their keys. Most bank branches have ATMs which accept Cirrus and Plus. Major credit cards are widely accepted; the most popular are Visa or MasterCard, but American Express is accepted in many of the more expensive places. Travellers cheques can be exchanged at some banks and currency exchange offices, but are not as welcome as cash or credit cards. US dollars or Euros are preferred. Some pensions and hotels in the most popular destinations accept US dollars as payment.

The two main beaches in Kas, Buyuk cakil (Big Pebble Beach) and Kücük cakil (Little Pebble Beach) are both shingled so many visitors ted to visit the nearby beach of Patara.

When the sun sets on the fishing town of Kas, the streets come to life with bars, clubs and cafés emitting warm glows of light, laughter and local music. The romantic feel to the town makes it a popular place for couples, meaning there are not as many trendy dance clubs as other Turkish resorts and young singles should head elsewhere if looking for a lively night out that extends to the early hours of the morning.

Kas is home to a growing number of cafés, restaurants and patisseries and visitors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out. Boasting all kinds of cuisine from Mediterranean, fresh local seafood and meze (similar to Spanish tapas), eating out in Kas is a culinary experience to remember and one that will linger on your taste buds for hours afterwards.

Contrary to popular belief, haggling is not common practise in Kas but visitors will be pleased to know that shop owners cannot hassle tourists or they face losing their license. With plenty of good shopping available, travellers will be have to sift through the dozens of carpet shops, souvenir stalls and counterfeit sportswear to find the true gems. Little boutiques selling tools, hand-carved artefacts, local silver and gold jewellery and plenty of Turkish kilims (hand-woven rugs) are the best places to shop in Kas and one need only look past the usual tourist tat to find some of the best buys in Kas.
